Unknown Centennial Year strip

Post by C0331 »

I had this posted here before, but no luck identifying the origin of this badge. Maybe the 2nd time is luckier.

I saw a picture of this badge over the weekend at the Nova Scotia Gilwell Reunion and was told that it was worn by all of those Scouting people that participate (worked ) at Expo 67.

On the Canadian Scout Collectable facebook group the badge for Expo 67 has the centennial emblem on the left and the Expo symbol on the right.

Hi all,

Steve's image is different than the image of the strip on the uniform. In this case there has been a mistake concerning the ASC centennial and the mystery strip that has come up several times over the past many years.

The Uniform has Scouts Canada's centennial strip (NAT 04a) and the ASC centennial strip (ASC 04a) as well as the Centennial 2007.

During research over the years I discovered that Steve's strip was:
1. used at Expo '67,
2. worn for the Idaho World Jamboree (also in 1967) and,
3. a prototype for NAT 4a/ASC 4a.

None of these could be substantiated.

I wonder who wore this strip at WJ12. I attended that jamboree and have never seen this badge. [Or it's so long ago that I've forgotten ;) ]

And so the mystery continues. I was a member of the Scout Service Corps at Expo 67 at various times throughout the event. Even got to skip 4 weeks of school, and I never saw the badge in use at Expo 67.
