Prairies to Rockies

Post by C1234 » May 14th, '20, 16:12

There is currently one of these badges listed on eBay by drmxd. eBay item number 153930743062. It is described as:
in 2010 a Jamboree of Sorts was held in Central Alberta. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all attended this event. This was (I understand) the only badge from the camp and people were upset it did not identify Alberta, or that it was a “sort of Jamboree”. Despite that you can see a Cow in a field, an oilfield Pump Jack, the Rocky Mountains and chinook winds - the large 10 represents the year 2010.
Our catalog lists this badge as Alberta A11a, Area 10.

Normally I would just shrug at somebody's weird description and move on except that eBay user drmxd is the esteemed Denny May and his knowledge of Scout things in Alberta far exceeds mine.

Is Denny correct and we have catalogued a jamboree badge as an Area badge? Or is Mr May confused?

I have the badge in question. Not sure where I acquired it. ( A jamboree - A Swap Meet - A Scout Shop purchase) It is a swiss embroidered, pre 2012.

My notes say my copy came from Bill Neil as a freebie along with a bunch of other badges I bought from him "off auction". So it's been a while.

It is (or was) an area with lots of groups within it. It is even listed as such on some of the Chinook Council websites.

I checked with Denny and "that was what he was told by the friend who gave him the badge".

So, no worries, it was an Area of Chinook Council before it split into "North Prairies to Rockies" and "South Prairies to Rockies". And someone gave it to Denny's friend and called it a jamboree badge.
